This week we watched episodes 638-644. We had family visiting so we didn’t get to watch many episodes but the episodes we did get to watch were pretty fun.
First, we got to see who won block B at the Corrida Colosseum. Unsurprisingly the winner was the “number one pirate who should just go away” Bartolomeo. His power was pretty cool though. He’s a barrier human who ate the Barrier-Barrier Fruit! Not a single competitor in Block was able to lay a finger on him. Every time they tried they simply hurt themselves.
Meanwhile, Sanji went and beat up the people Violet asked him too. Of course, it all turned out to be a trap and Violet really is an assassin of the Don Quixote family. She handcuffs Sanji and beats him up. Then she reveals that she ate the Glare-Glare Fruit and became quite an insightful woman. She has the ability to see inside others minds. When she looked in Sanji’s mind she saw umm… Let’s just call it Sanji’s love for women. Violet started to believe what Sanji was saying about how he feels about a woman’s tears after looking into his mind. Apparently Violet didn’t really want to work for Doflamingo. She turned on her comrades and used her impressive “Eye Whale” ability to incapacitate them.
Later, Violet uses her devil fruit power to let Sanji see inside her mind to show him that Doflamingo had fooled them. He never actually quit the Seven Warlords and the newspapers were all false.
Meanwhile, Law, Usopp, and Robin escorted Caesar to the exchange point on Green Bit. For what feels like convenient plot purposes Law sends Usopp and Robin to explore the island. They end up being captured by some strong little people and get taken to their village underground. However, they do end up talking their way out of trouble.
By the time Law get’s a call from Sanji to tell him what’s going on it’s too late. Joker has arrived and so has the new Navy admiral Fujitora. This leads to an epic three-way battle. At least that’s what it looks like it was going to lead to. Instead we just see Fujitora show off his incredible power. He swings his sword towards the sky and a giant meteorite comes down from the Sky. All three of the fighters manage to protect themselves. The Navy soldiers and Caesar just run to avoid the blast. It looks like Law is just trying to buy some time. Instead of fighting he runs away into the Green Bit Forest.
Meanwhile, both Sanji and Franky find out the location of the factory, apparently, it is disguised as a toy house. While they are heading over to the factor the Battle Royal for Block C beings at the Coliseum. Block is Luffy’s Block. It takes him a little while to get used to fighting without showing his Gum-Gum powers, but he gets the hang of it.
Luffy ends up taming a the Brutal Bull and taking down a giant. He quickly becomes a crowd favorite to win. Thanks to his strength speed and haki Luffy is sure to win even if he doesn’t display his Gum-Gum powers. There are so many stories being told this arc I can’t wait to see how everything comes together in the end.
This week was pretty busy for us we didn’t get to watch much One Piece at all. We only managed to get in 9 episodes but those episodes were the beginning of the next Arc of One Piece,”Dressrosa” before the arc started though we did get some interesting news. Buggy the Clown has become one of the Seven Warlords. It’s not really relevant to the plot right now but it was so unbelievable when I saw that I felt I just had to mention it.
Now, on to the things that are actually important to the plot. The Straw Hats along with Trafalgar Law are using their newly formed alliance to try and take down one of the four emperors. The next step in their plan is to hand Caesar back over to Doflamingo. Meanwhile, another group will go destroy the factory where they are making these man-made Zoan type devil fruits. A third team will stay behind and guard the ship.
Of course, Luffy’s team gets separated fairly quickly. Some “fairy” steals one of Zoro’s swords so he has to go after it. Sanji and Kin’Emon (the samurai) go after him but Sanji gets distracted by a beautiful dancer named Violet and the samurai just gets lost.
Meanwhile, Luffy and Franky find out that there is a tournament being held at the Corrida Colosseum and the prize is the Flare-Flare fruit. That’s the Devil fruit that gave Luffy’s brother Ace his powers. Apparently, when a devil fruit eater dies the power of that devil fruit is then reproduced somewhere else in the world. Doflamingo got his hands on the new flare-flare fruit and put it as a prize for the tournament drawing in all types of strong fighters. Luffy doesn’t want some stranger to possess Ace’s power so of course, he enters the tournament.
The tournament consists of four battle royals the winner of each battle royal will move to the main tournament. There are plenty of interesting looking new characters in this tournament. I can’t wait to see the fights. I am pretty sure Luffy is going to when the whole thing. He entered under the name Lucy but he’s still going to have some trouble keeping his true identity a secret.
So this week I watched episodes 575-589. I know that is way less than I’ve been watching for and there are two simple reasons for that. The first being I’m no longer watching the series dubbed so I have to give my complete attention to every single second of every episode. Since I don’t watch anime full time I still have other responsibilities so I can’t watch as much as I used to. The second reason I’m watching fewer episodes is I’ve finally caught up to Mrs. Otaku so now we are watching One Piece together which means no more watching during my lunch break at work which means I watch roughly 4 fewer episodes a day. Watching less episodes means I’ll get to talk more about more detailed things I like about One Piece from week to week and I’ll actually be able to cover all of the things I want to instead of having to skip stuff because it would make my post to long, like I had to the previous two weeks.
Now that you guys have been updated on my current watching habits let’s discuss episodes 575-589. These episodes were the start of the Punk Hazard Arc. The Straw Hats have finally made it to the New World. Right off the bat, they have to deal with crazy weather, the Navy, and the Neo Navy. The weather allowed Nami to show off some of the things she learned during her two years on Weatheria. The Navy was the same as always, but the Neo-Navy was pretty interesting. They are like die hard marines that aren’t apart of the marines that will do anything to achieve their goal of killing all of the pirates in the new world. They operate like a crazy terrorist organization, at one point they run out of missiles and start you using there submarines instead with people still inside. These people not only volunteered to do this but it was their idea. That’s totally crazy. The captain of the group we saw was actually pretty strong. If Luffy and the others hadn’t trained for those two years they would’ve had a hard time beating him. Luckily they had that training so it didn’t take too much effort to finish him off.
After finishing off the Neo-Navy they receive a distress call from someone on Punk Hazard. They happened to be already close to the island so they stopped by. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the island is literally on fire. Even the sea around the island was in flames but that only made it more exciting for Luffy. Later find out that the other side of the island is frozen solid. Apparently, Vice Admiral Aokiji and Vice Admiral Akainu had a big fight on the island to see who would be the next Fleet Admiral and they left the island in this pitiful state.
Luffy ends up beating up a giant dragon and eating it. While other members end up locked in a cell by some strange people working for a deranged mad scientist named Caesar the Clown. The escape no problem thanks to Franky’s new laser beam. The crew runs into some giant kids on their way out and find out that they have been kidnapped. So they decided to be nice and they break the kids out and take them with them with the promise of getting them home.
Meanwhile, Captain Smoker (now Vice Admiral Smoker) shows up with his new navy team the G-5. They heard Luffy on the distress call and they are coming to capture him and the rest of the Straw Hats. They don’t actually get to fight the straw hats because they run into Trafalgar D. Law who is apparently now one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. He makes short work of the G5. He defeats captain Smoker by taking out his heart. Smoker’s not dead though thanks to Law’s devil fruit power he is able to cut people up without harming them. So he didn’t kill anyone but he easily could have. I wonder what Law is actually doing on the island since it is forbidden by the world government for anyone to come there.
So far the Punk Hazard arc is really intriguing to me. I’m most excited to learn more about Law’s character and what his plans are.
