One Piece episode 858 was pretty much more of the same as last week. There was more fighting and more cake making. We also got to see a musical number from Praline which was unexpected.

Let’s get the fighting part of this episode out of the way since not much changed from last week. Luffy is still fighting Katakuri. Katakuri continues to keep his calm and is able to easily dodge all of Luffy’s attacks. Eventually, Luffy’s fourth gear Run’s out of time and he runs away from Katakuri. Things were looking grim until he spotted Brulee and used her to get out of the Mirror World. Luffy is not a coward though so instead of Leaving Katakuri trapped in the Mirror World he plans on going back in 10 minutes once he regains his Haki.

Meanwhile, Sanji, Pudding, and Chiffon finish the cake. Well, I guess it would be more accurate to say they finished preparing the cake they at their current location. The cake has finished baking but they still have to put the toppings on. Apparently, the cake is so fluffy they have to hold it down so it won’t float away. Pudding’s fresh chocolate is so smooth that if they didn’t put a lid on it the chocolate would spill out the pot. Finally, Sanji’s ultimate cream Simsim Whip is so delicious it can cause you to almost die from happiness. I found that to be pretty impressive makes me wish I could taste it.

Earlier I mention Praline’s musical number. First, if you don’t remember who Praline is she is actually Aladdin the fishman from the Sun Pirates wife. She uses her musical talents to convince all of Big Mom’s Territory Slugs to take the day off so the Straw Hats could be tracked. I love when music has an actual purpose instead of simply being random. This was well appreciated by me.

Lastly, an observation I made after I finished watching this episode. Praline’s full name is Charlotte Praline. She is the 29th daughter of Big Mom but she’s helping the Straw Hats. Charlotte Pudding is also helping the Straw Hats. Oh and Charlotte Chiffon is also helping the Straw Hats. Maybe Big Mom should treat he daughters better that way they wouldn’t ally with her enemies. At the same time though she also marries her daughter’s off and when they get married clearly their allegiance lies with their husband. Which is the way it should be so I guess it doesn’t matter how she treats them. Next week get to see how Sanji is going to slip past oven to deliver the Cake. I can’t wait to see how he is going to pull this off.

So, I watched One Piece episode 857 this week. This episode was pretty much all Luffy Vs. Katakuri. It was awesome to see Luffy finally go gear fourth and start landing some hits on Katakuri.

Luffy finally realized that it was Katakuri’s observation Haki that was making him seem unbeatable. Apparently, none of Luffy’s attacks were passing through Katakuri’s body. Katakuri was actually changing the shape of his body to avoid being hit all.

Once Luffy managed to break Katakuri’s calm state of mind by making him angry after seeing him eating, Luffy was able to get plenty of good hits on Katakuri. I did like how Katakuri refused to fall on his back and you used every technique he had to prevent himself from falling.

There was one other part to this episode that I really liked. Brulee called Pudding to update her on what was going on with the Straw Hats. She told her about Luffy and Katakuri’s one on one fight. Sanji was listening to their conversation. After Brulee hung up with Pudding, she expressed to Sanji how worried she was for Luffy because Katakuri has never lost a fight and his bounty is over a billion berries. Sanji was concerned at all. He had complete faith in his captain’s ability to win. It was awesome to see how much confidence he has in Luffy.

I can’t wait until next week it looks like Katakuri is calming down and starting to use his observation Haki on Luffy again. He also pulled out a new cool technique where he punches Luffy from a distance through donuts. Next week I guess we’ll see how Luffy handles this attack.

This week’s episode was just what I needed. Episode 856 was pretty much all Luffy versus Katakuri. We got to see a few funny moments, but more importantly, we got to learn more about Katakuri.

This episode starts out with Luffy buried under a few tons of Mochi. Luffy escapes by eating his way out and then he delivered this hilarious line: “What’s with the pirate battles in this place?! I have to eat something every time to win?!” I couldn’t stop laughing.  Luffy then proceeded to run away and then he came back having lost lots of weight.

Meanwhile, Katakuri made his own little shrine to eat in. Some chefs brought him his donuts and tea. The fight with Luffy caused him to be 40 minutes late for his snack time though, so his tea got cold. The chefs were so sure they were going to be punished, but Katakuri was nice and calm and said he’d just have iced tea.

When Luffy bust into Katakuri’s shrine to continue the battle, we get our first look at Katakuri’s crazy looking mouth. Apparently, the scarf he wears over his mouth isn’t just for decoration — it’s to hide his mouth. He’s pretty self-conscious about it, that’s why he never lets anyone see him eat. Those poor chefs died for what they saw. It was pretty much all Luffy’s fault though; they weren’t trying to look.

After Katakuri had taken care of the Chefs, he turned his anger towards Luffy and the battle started again. This time Luffy actually managed to get in a solid hit on Katakuri. Then, all of a sudden, something clicks for Luffy and he says he figured out how Katakuri’s ability works. He goes Fourth Gear and proceeds to get to work.

I love that Luffy didn’t get beat up all that time for nothing and actually managed to learn something. I also like that he didn’t waste his Fourth Gear by fighting an opponent he hadn’t figured out how to defeat yet. I’m really looking forward to next week.

Another week and another One Piece Episode. This weeks episode was mostly just Luffy VS Katakuri. Katakuri said he wasn’t going to underestimate Luffy. Which was pretty cool because we got to see Katakuri use his devil fruit awakening. Much like how Doflamingo was able to turn the things around him into strings, Katakuri was able to turn the things around him and Luffy into Mochi. This ability allowed him to seemingly defeat Luffy by burying him underneath a mountain of mochi. We all know that Luffy will escape though.

We also got to see some of the other Big Mom pirates talk about Luffy and some of the other Straw Hats. They decided that they will no longer keep underestimating the Straw Hats. I felt like this was refreshing because the antagonist is always underestimating the main characters in anime. Now that the Big Mom Pirates have decided to go all out when the Straw Hats beat them everyone will know its just because they were better. I look forward to that.

Lastly, we got to see a brief scene with Grema 66. They beat all ten thousand of the soldiers that the Big Mom Pirates sent after them. They are truly superhuman. Which is something we already knew but to defeat ten thousand soldiers with four people is pretty crazy. The icing on the cake though is that they were able to use this unique ability to sound like one of their defeated enemies while on the transponder snail with the other Big Mom Pirates. They used this ability to make the Big Mom Pirates think they had beat Germa 66, and they also got an update on what’s going on with the Straw Hats. Who knows what they’ll do next but I’m looking forward to it.

Another week another episode down. Not a lot really happened during this week’s episode so this will probably be my shortest One Piece post over.

The episode starts out with Nami and the others finally destroying all of the mirrors on the ship like Luffy told them to at the beginning of the last episode. They break the other mirrors just in time because Brulee was about to send more flaming arrows their way.

They contact Luffy through a broken piece of mirror and tell him they broke all of the mirrors so the enemy can’t come and attack them, but that also means he doesn’t have a way to get back on the ship. Luffy says he’ll come up with a plan but Nami doesn’t believe him and comes up with a plan for him. She tells him to find a mirror to Cacao island since that’s where they will be meeting Sanji around 1 AM. Unfortunately, Brulee overhears this and tell her brother on the outside so now he is headed there with Big Mom.

Luffy starts getting beat up in the middle of talking to the crew about the plan. He doesn’t want his crew to worry so he covers his mouth so they can’t hear him crying out in pain. Even though it looks like Luffy is going to die here. When he finally manages to get a second to catch his breath he assures his crew that he’ll be on the island waiting for him. It was nice of Luffy not to want them to worry it shows that Luffy cares about his crew emotional well being. This shows an extra layer to Luffy’s character. Still, don’t know how he’s going to manage to win this fight though. I guess we’ll have to see next week.

For the first time in 22 weeks, I’ve only watched one new episode of One Piece since my last post. It still feels weird to be all caught up. This is going to be my first review of a singular episode of One Piece. This we week I watched episode 853. This episode didn’t really continue the fight between Katakuri and Luffy. It showed more of what the other Straw Hats were doing. Most importantly it showed off what role Jimbei is going to play on the ship.

This episode starts off with Brulee and the others in the mirror world shooting flaming arrows through a mirror on the Straw Hats ship. Luffy couldn’t stop them from doing and fight Katakuri at the same time, so he picks up a broken piece of mirror and contact Nami and tells her to break all the mirrors on the ship. Instead of immediately doing what Luffy tells her to do she tells him that he won’t have a way back to them if he does that. Luffy knows this and reassures her that he will find a way back. However, Nami still doesn’t go ahead and destroy the mirrors. This was kind of frustrating it’d be nice if she had just done what she was told.

Meanwhile, Sanji is baking the cake that will satisfy Big Mom. We get to see Sanji really in his element. He’s an excellent head chef. He showed off his cooking knowledge and how he is able to make due even if he’s missing ingredients. This impressed the other cooks which led them to compliment Pudding and her husband Sanji. (Don’t if I mentioned this before but Pudding rewrote the memories inside the other cooks to make them think that the wedding was successful.) The compliments got Pudding pretty excited. I think we saw the first ever female nose bleed in One Piece. If I’m wrong about that let me know in the comments down below.

Back on the Straw Hats ship Nami and the others (excluding Jimbei) became scared thinking they were going to die when they saw Big Mom coming for them on top of a giant unavoidable wave. Jimbei gave the crew some quick instructions that would allow him to trim all the sails on the ship single-handedly.

Jimbei proceeded to steer this towards the wave which scared everyone but then he told them that they were about to enter the Green Room. To the rest of the crew’s amazement, they didn’t get swallowed by the wave. The Green Room is a brief “wave room” that forms inside a collapsing wave. Apparently, this is where the children of the Fish-Man Tribe used to play.

Jimbei showed off his amazing talent as a helmsman. He controlled the ship like it was apart of his own body and safely avoided the massive wave. Jimbei is going to be an awesome helmsman for the Straw Hat crew. I didn’t know what his role was going to be but now it’s abundantly clear. I look forward to seeing more of Jimbei steering the ship. I can’t wait until he shows off his skills while Franky is on board.

This episode ended with Nami finally breaking the mirror in the ship and informing the others of Luffy’s orders. It was pretty irritating that it took the entire episode for her to follow one simple order. If Zoro had been there he would’ve carried out the order with no hesitation. I can’t wait until Zoro rejoins the story.

Next week it looks like the Luffy vs Katakuri fight will finally continue. I don’t know what’s going to happen next but I’m sure it’ll be good.
